The NSC will be based on a hub-and-spoke model, with a central observatory on the University’s Gogerddan campus near Aberystwyth as well as a variety of outdoor radio range environments for testing and experimentation.
The University already has a range of outdoor environments, including rural, coastal and upland, which are suitable for these purposes.
1) Pwllpeiran Research Station
The Pwllpeiran Upland Research Centre is a centre for the study of upland farmed ecosystems. It is a university-owned land.
Pwllpeiran is located in the heart of the Cambrian Mountains, West Wales. Pwllpeiran has a proven track record in conducting high quality strategic research, and is uniquely placed to carry out innovative and integrated research to inform policy-making for tomorrow’s multi-functional uplands.

2) National Spectrum Centre, Lord Milford Building and Gogerddan Woods
NSC’s main hub is on the Aberystwyth University’s Gogerddan campus. The building is fully furnished with the offices, storage units and the conference rooms.

3) Frongoch Farm
Experimental location for agricultural, biological, and land-based research at Aberystwyth. Frongoch farm is owned by AU since 1919. Welsh Plant Breeding Station. It has an observation hut, and telescope dome (10” optical telescope). The hut has main power and high bandwidth connection to the main campus.

5) Capel Dewi
Capel Dewi Atmospheric Observatory (CDAO) is situated in a rural valley location (52.4245°N, -4.0055°E) 6 km inland from the coastal town of Aberystwyth in west Wales, UK. Main radar operates at 46.5 MHz with additional instruments working at 1290 MHz, 915 MHz, and & 78 GHz.
This facility was originally developed as part of the tropospheric research in the Physics Department of Aberystwyth University. Subsequently operated by STFC and then NERC. Now known as Atmospheric Measurement & Observation Facility.
6) Sites at Aberystwyth University, Penglais Campus
Suitable installation sites for indoor test and outdoor tests.
The following sites at the Aberystwyth University, Penglais Campus, were deployed in the Serapis stage 1 experimentations for indoor/outdoor static tests and outdoor mobile platform measurements.

7) Constitution Hill

Other facilities will be developed for use by agreement in both Ceredigion and Powys so that the following locations are available to a UK-wide network of radio spectrum users:
